Annual Council Tax Rates

Council Tax Bandings for a Selected Financial Year

Council Tax Levels

Your local council (Amber Valley Borough Council) sets the council tax.

The amount set depends on how much it and certain other public bodies known as "Precepting Authorities" (Derbyshire County Council, Derbyshire Police & Crime Commissioner, Derbyshire Fire Authority, parish councils) in your area need to spend and how much money they get from elsewhere.

Amber Valley Borough Council issues the bills and then collects the council tax on behalf of all of the local Precepting Authorities (Derbyshire County Council, Derbyshire Police & Crime Commissioner, Derbyshire Fire Authority, parish councils). Amber Valley Borough Council uses only about 10% of the council tax that Amber Valley Borough Council collects in; the remaining 90% is paid over to the Precepting Authorities

At a Full Council meeting held on the 2 March 2016 Council Members agreed the level of Council Tax for the year from the 1st April 2016 to 31st March 2017. The figures are shown for each band in each parish. Annual Demand Notices relating to 2016/17 will be issued on Monday 14 March 2016.

Note relating to Derbyshire County Council’s Adult Social Care Council Tax amount from 2016/17:

The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government made an offer to adult social care authorities in December 2015. “Adult social care authorities” are local authorities which have functions under Part 1 of the Care Act 2014 (“adult social care functions”), namely county councils in England, districts councils for an area in England for which there is no county council, London borough councils, the Common Council of the City of London and the Council of the Isles of Scilly.

The offer was the option of an adult social care authority being able to increase its relevant basic amount of council tax for the financial year beginning in 2016 by an additional 2% without holding a referendum, to assist it in meeting expenditure on adult social care functions. Subject to the annual approval of the House of Commons, the Secretary of State intends to offer the option of setting this additional increase each year up to and including 2019-20. In relation to the financial year beginning in 2016 the Secretary of State has determined (and the House of Commons has approved) a referendum threshold of 4% (comprising 2% for expenditure on adult social care and 2% for other expenditure), for adult social care authorities. These authorities may therefore increase their relevant basic amount of council tax up to this percentage in 2016 without holding a referendum.

Important Note:The figures shown are before the award of any discount, reduction for disabilities scheme, exemption or Council Tax Support (Support replaced Benefit from 1 April 2013).

Council Tax Leaflet

The 2016/17 Council Tax Guide containing Budget Information, previously issued with Annual Demands, is now available here.

Making it available online rather than issuing it in paper format with Demands has saved the Council around £3,000 per year.
