Dangerous Animal Licences

The Council regulates the keeping of certain species of wild animals is controlled by the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976. Anyone wishing to keep dangerous animals require as licence to do so.

Prior to granting the licence the Council will carry out a series of checks to ensure accommodation and safeguards are suitable. Once a licence as been issued the owner is subject to periodic inspections and an annual review to ensure that standards are being maintained.

A fee is applicable to the licences, period of which begins on 1st January and expires on the 31st December of the year to which the licence relates. Licences must be renewed before that date if person wishes to continue to keep dangerous animals.
