The Demolition of 1-3 High Street, Heanor
A big issue in Heanor was the derelict building on number 1 High Street Heanor. Having a derelict building on the entrance to Heanor did not give a good impression of the town and local people wanted it to be removed.
The Regeneration team were tasked by the Heanor Regeneration Partnership to work towards having the buildings pulled down.
Following this decision a project group was formed between Derbyshire County Council who owned the building next to the derelict building and the owners of number 1 High Street. Through negotiation it was agreed that both buildings would be demolished with the owners sharing the cost.
The regeneration team worked with Amber Valley Borough Council's building control team to get the necessary permissions for the demolition and then worked with neighbouring properties to ensure that they were happy the demolition would not damage their businesses.
The demolition took place over a period of 2 weeks so as not to disrupt road traffic. The 2 buildings have now been demolished and the regeneration team is working with the 2 landowners to see how the site can be brought forward for future development.
