Amber Fest

AmberFest Community Showcase proved a great attraction when it took centre stage in Ripley Market Place on Saturday 18th July.

Members of the public were offered the opportunity to take time out from their weekend shopping to speak to officers from Amber Valley Borough Council about their services and chat about areas of concern with organisations working to improve the Borough.

The free event also featured local housing provider Futures Homescape who were able to highlight a number of neighbourhood initiatives, along with the Amber Community First Responders who showcased their valuable work in delivering rapid medical assistance in association with East Midlands Ambulance Service. Under their watchful eye youngsters were encouraged to test their first aid skills.

Also taking part were Derwentwise and Groundwork encouraging people to enjoy the local nature reserves and green spaces and consider volunteering opportunities.

The event attracted over 200 people and visitors were entertained with vibrant music by Liquid Brass and traditional dancing by Ripley Morris Dancers and Green Garters.

Sponsored by SpecSavers Ripley and Deb the day also provided an opportunity to pass on information about some of the area’s treasures - from green spaces and award-winning parks to healthy activities and town trails.

Commented Amber Valley Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Cllr Kevin Buttery: “AmberFest proved a very good way of bringing together some of the groups and organisations responsible for making the area such a great place to live and work. I was very pleased that a good number of visitors took the opportunity to learn more about the some of the services and facilities on their doorstep.”

A photo album of the event can be viewed here.
