Council seeks help to halt Riddings Park vandalism

A recent spate of arson attacks and vandalism at Riddings Park is starting to have a negative impact for local people who take their children to play and enjoy the park. Two pieces of play equipment and picnic benches have been set on fire, along with newly planted trees. A lighting column has also been snapped, leaving a repair bill of more than £5000.

The incidents have been carried out over the past few weeks and although local people have come forward to report the damage they have not been able to identify who may be responsible.

Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Cllr David Wilson, said: “This wanton damage is a cost to the tax payer and local people must be furious with whoever is doing this. It’s such a shame as Riddings Park is our most recent Green Flag Award winner, which recognises this park as one of the best in the UK.”

Borough Council Officers are asking that if anyone sees this type of vandalism taking place in our parks, they report it to the Police using the 101 number, and any information about these recent arson attacks in Riddings Park will be followed up as further damage needs to be prevented.
