In order to be able to vote your name should appear on the Register of Electors. Just because you pay Council Tax does not mean that you are automatically entered on the Register – you need to make an application.

Individual Electoral Registration (IER) has replaced the old style registration process and anyone wishing to register to vote will need to supply their date of birth and National Insurance number. This information must be matched against the records held by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) before the application can be approved. If your information does not match we may ask you to provide proof of your identity, for example your passport or driving licence. It is therefore vital you do not wait until the deadline to register to vote, please register as soon as possible.

If you have recently moved in to a property you may not be registered, so you need to apply.

The easiest way to register is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

If you want to vote on Thursday 7 May 2015 you must register by 5pm on Monday 20 April.

If you want to vote by post then you must complete and return an application form by 5pm on Tuesday 21 April.
