Ripley Rattlers Remembered

Amber Valley artist, Ruth Gray has created a series of paintings, illustrating the route of the Ripley Rattler trams, and celebrating the centenary of the opening of the route.

The acrylics depict the route of the trams which passed through Codnor and Eastwood, on their way from Ripley to Notttingham.

Ruth, who specialises in landscapes, and has established a reputation for her fine work, has donated one of her original paintings to the Council, on behalf of the people of Amber Valley.  The atmospheric image depicts the Town Hall and Ripley Market Place and formed part of her recent exhibition.

Mayor of Amber Valley, Councillor John Walker, was delighted to receive the painting, which is now on display for all to see in the Amber Valley Town Centre Office, Market Place, Ripley.

Professional artist Ruth has been painting for eleven years and particularly likes painting the lesser known areas and forgotten towns of Derbyshire which do not enjoy as high a profile as others.  Ruth said: “I am delighted that one of my paintings has been received so warmly and that members of the public will now be able to enjoy this.  I find that local people appreciate the opportunity to views paintings of their own area, which may not be as widely available as other locations.”

Ruth holds a number of Derbyshire exhibitions through the year, further details and examples of her work can be found at her website.  www.ruthgrayimages.net
