Tesco news welcomed

News that the two Tesco stores in Amber Valley will not be affected by the supermarket giant’s store cutting programme, has been greeted with relief by the Borough Council’s Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Councillor Chris Emmas-Williams.

In an announcement on Wednesday (28 January) Tesco named the 43 stores it will be closing across the country as part of its plan to cut costs. Neither the Alfreton nor Heanor stores were included in the list.

Councillor Emmas-Williams commented: “We breathed a large sigh of relief when we saw that our two Tesco stores were safe. Tesco plays a key role in the local communities in Alfreton and Heanor, and is a very important employer. Good things are starting to happen in those town centres but we do need the presence of large retail names like Tesco, to underpin new regeneration initiatives.”
