Cleaning for the Queen

Amber Valley Borough Council’s Clean for the Queen campaign got off to a very cold, wet and windy, but nevertheless successful, start with the first clean-up taking place on Wednesday 2nd March in Heanor & Belper.  Further clean-ups took place on Saturday 5th March in Somercotes and on Tuesday 8th March in Ripley & Alfreton and the surrounding areas.

Battling through the weather on all 5 clean-ups were staff from the Borough Council’s Landscape Services Department along with members of the public, local ward members, town and parish councils, staff from McDonalds and the police, who all worked together to clean our streets and make them fit for the Queen.

Over the 3 days of the clean-up a total of 178 bags of litter was collected, a road sign, a shopping trolley, a moped, a space hopper, and an umbrella, to name but a few items.

Councillor David Wilson, Cabinet Member for the Environment said: “We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who braved the elements during this highly successful event, to help us clean our streets and make Amber Valley a more beautiful and attractive place to live, work and visit.”

In addition to the above clean-ups the Borough Council will also be carrying out a clean-up of the A38 during evenings from Monday 21st March starting at 10.00pm through to 6.00am on Thursday 24th March and would ask drivers to exercise caution when driving along the A38 where there will be lane closures.
