Local Boxing Club receives grant for getting connected

On Tuesday 26th July Power Gym Amateur Boxing Club based at the Denby Institute was presented with a £250 grant from Amber Valley Borough Council. The club were entered into a prize draw to win the grant after being one of the first 20 clubs to register with the Council’s Amber Valley Clubs Connected programme.

The presentation of the grant cheque to ‘The Bulls’ as the amateur boxing squad is known was made on behalf of Amber Valley Borough Council by Councillor David Taylor Cabinet Member for Housing and Public Health & Councillor Daniel Booth.

The first 20 sports clubs to sign up to Amber Valley Clubs Connected were entered into the prize draw as an incentive for clubs to sign up. Since Clubs Connected was launched in May 2016 35 clubs from all across Amber Valley have signed up representing 15 different sports.

Cllr David Taylor stated: “It is a pleasure to present this grant to a local club offering a fantastic opportunity for local residents to get involved in boxing, I hope this grant and the support of the Council’s Clubs Connected programme can help Power Gym and other local clubs continue to grow and succeed.”

On receiving this grant Power Gym Head Coach Gordon Watson said: “We’re really pleased to receive this grant from Amber Valley Borough Council which will allow us to continue to affiliate both the club and athletes with England Boxing.
