Council consults on Public Space Protection Orders

Amber Valley Borough Council is looking for feedback on its proposals to introduce a number of Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPO) in different areas across the Borough.

PSPO is a provision created by the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2015 which intends to deal with particular nuisance issues within a defined area that are detrimental to the local community’s quality of life.  This is done by imposing conditions on the use of a defined area which applies to everyone. A failure to comply with a PSPO could lead to enforcement action being taken by either the Council or partner agencies.

There are three types of anti-social behaviour that the Council wishes to control:

  • anti-social behaviour in cemeteries
  • fly-tipping hot spots
  • town centres and parks.

The locations of these orders and the terms of each order are listed on the Council’s website - Members of the public can also register their views on the PSPOs via an online form on the website.

This period of consultation on the proposed PSPOs closes at 12 midnight on Friday 7th September 2017.  The Council is also inviting comments from The Police and Crime Commissioner, the land owner, representatives from Derbyshire Police, and local residents.

Anyone without an internet connection and wanting to register their feedback can do so at the Council’s Ripley Town Hall reception – 9am-4.30pm Monday – Friday, and 10am – 4.30pm Wednesday.
