Grant Making Policies

(a) That priority be given to applicants who have not previously received grants;

(b) That fixed sums up to a set maximum be given to certain groups such as scout groups, schools and nurseries e.g. Belper Pre-School Playgroups Association and Belper Head Teachers Association and that such collective applications be encouraged;

(c) That applicants be invited to present their applications and answer questions;

(d) That there be no grants for the repair and maintenance to the fabric of buildings;

(e) That the Charity give particular consideration to new initiatives;

(f) That, subject to policy (l) below, in respect of grants for educational, recreational and leisure purposes, applications from individuals be resisted;

(g) That the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Charity be authorised to deal with urgent applications from individuals for the relief of the poor, up to a maximum of £250;

(h) Grants must be used within 6 months;

(i) That the applicants/beneficiaries be requested to recognise the funding received from the Charity in any publicity or advertising material provided this can be achieved without incurring extra costs;

(j) That applications from national organisations be rejected unless it can be clearly demonstrated that the grant would be used specifically for the inhabitants of the area served by Belper Town Council;

(k) That grants given by the Charity must be used by the original applicant and must not be distributed to any other organisation, unless specifically authorised by the Charity;

(l) That individual applicants be requested to demonstrate why the activity would not take place if the grant was not approved.

(m) That no grants be given to applicants towards the relief of costs or expenses arising from or relating to credit or debts.
