Local Elections refer to County, Borough and Parish
Elections.
A successful candidate in any local election will serve for a
term of 4 years, unless a candidate was nominated to fill a casual
vacancy (which may occur due to a resignation or death of a
councillor) then it would be for the remaining term of the retiring
or deceased councillor.
A candidate must be 18 years of age on the day of nomination and
a commonwealth citizen, citizen of the Republic of Ireland, or a
citizen of another Member State of the European Union. Other
qualifications are set out on the nomination paper. There is no
deposit payable for local elections.
The next Borough Council Elections will be held in May
2014.
The next County Council Elections will be held in May 2013.
The next Parish Council Elections will be held in May 2015.
As part of the nomination process, candidates at Borough and
Parish Council elections will be invited to sign the Local Election
Compact for Amber Valley. Click here to view a copy of the Compact.
