The lifelong learning division of Derbyshire County Council's Education department includes Youth and Community, Adult Community Education, Outdoor Education and Sports Services. From under five year old children in crèches, to over 90 year old adult learners, lifelong learning caters for the educational needs of Derbyshire residents outside of schools and universities.

Provision is locally based on over 250 sites across the county , including centres run and maintained by the service. Primarily supported by Derbyshire County Council, additional funding is also secured from the Further Education Funding Council, European Union, Health Authorities, Youth Exchange Centre, Sports Council and other funding agencies for particular aspects of the work.
