Household Waste and Recycling Centres
These Civic Amenity Sites are sites that are managed by
Derbyshire County Council and are provided for you
to dispose of large items that cannot fit into your refuse bin
or items that should not be placed inside your refuse bin such as:
carpets, soil, building rubble, paint pots, fluorescent light tubes
etc.
They are also provided to enable you to recycle waste items such
as: plastic bottles, garden waste, car batteries, old oil, old
paint, wood, electrical items, etc.
The Household Waste and Recycling Centre in Amber Valley is
located at Taylor Lane, Loscoe, Heanor, DE75 7TA. To find out

Recycling Sites in Amber Valley
There are forty one recycling bring sites located throughout the
Borough, were the following items can be taken by residents to be
recycled or re-used:
Textiles/Shoes (clean, dry, clothing, bedding
and curtains / Shoes, boots or slippers)
Books/DVD's/CD's (items that can be
re-used)
Charities or companies that sponsor charities collect the above
items, which are then checked, cleaned and sent for re-use in third
world countries, or sold in charity shops within the United
Kingdom. Any clothing etc that cannot be re-used is recycled
into cleaning cloths or upholstery filler.
Cans (tin/aluminium cans, including
aerosol cans, clean take-away containers) NO PAINT OR OIL
CANS
Glass (glass bottles and jars, blue glass to be
recycled with brown glass) NO PYREX DISHES, WINDOW
GLASS OR MIRRORS
Paper/Card (all types of paper and card
including telephone directories)
Plastic & Cartons (tetra pak)
It is very difficult to list every single plastic container,
there is just too many, so here is a guide:
We will accept and collect the
following:
Salad trays, oven ready meal trays, fizzy drink and water
bottles. 
Bottles for milk, bleach, cleaners and most shampoo
bottles. 
Margarine and cream cheese tubs, microwavable meal
trays. 
Yoghurt pots, ice cream tubs, egg cartons, vending cups, plastic
cutlery, protective packaging for electronic goods and toys. 
We will also accept Liquid juice/milk cartons e.g.
TetraPak
We will not accept or collect the
following:
Pipes, fittings, window and door frames (rigid PVC), plastic
toys, thermal insulation, foam and automotive parts.

Carrier bags, bin liners, bubble wrap, cling film, packaging
films and
any other form of plastic bags.

Removing the lids and squashing the bottles before putting
them in the banks, will allow more recycling to be collected.
Please note that you can now recycle batteries (not car
batteries) and energy saving lightbulbs at
Sainsbury's bring site, Ripley, there are also battery recycling
boxes at Alfreton, Belper, Duffield, Heanor, Somercotes and Ripley
libraries.
Not all sites have the full range of recycling banks, please see
the list below which will inform you as to which site is nearest to
your property and which items can be recycled at that location.
