Trees and Hedgerows

Tree Preservation Orders

Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) are used to protect selected trees and woodlands if their removal would have a significant impact on the environment and its enjoyment by the public. Priority for Tree Preservation Orders is generally given to trees which are considered to be under threat, for example where development is proposed.

Copies of Amber Valley Borough Council’s TPO documents can be downloaded from the TPO Documents webpage.

Trees in Conservation Areas

Trees in Conservation Areas may be protected by TPOs but where they are not, there is a duty to give us six weeks notice in writing before carrying out any work.

Landscape Services undertake hedge cutting on the following areas:

  • Parks
  • Cemeteries
  • A number of highways and footpaths

For hedges obstructing the highway from private landowners, please contact Derbyshire County Council on 01629 533190.

High Hedge Complaint Form

Use this form to submit a complaint to the Council about a high hedge, under Part 8 of the Anti-social Behaviour Act 2003. It should be completed by the person making the complaint or their representative.
