Affordable housing (within Amber Valley) is housing which
can be accessed by households with an income that is on or below
the median income of all households within Amber Valley.
In accordance with the Housing Needs Survey (2008)
households who fall into this category should not spend over 25% of
their income on housing. This is in line with the Government
definition of affordable housing that includes both subsidised and
non-subsidised housing to meet the local needs of people unable to
meet local housing costs.
Based on the Housing Needs Survey, Amber Valley Borough
Council has predominantly supported the delivery of social rented
accommodation to meet housing need. Different types of Low Cost
Home Ownership (LCHO) have also provided an opportunity for a small
number of households to become owner-occupiers who would otherwise
be unable to do so.
