We offer support and help whether you're homeless or worried about becoming homeless. We'll give you advice based on your personal circumstances.
We work with numerous partners to provide services to help you stay in your current home. If however that's not possible we can help you to find a new home.

If you think you may be homeless or threatened with homelessness we may be able to help you to remain in your home or move to another home. The earlier you contact us the more we'll be able to help you.

We'll talk to you about your circumstances. This will help us to understand your situation and any support and help you may need. We'll fill in a personal housing support plan and agree with you what you need to do and also what we need to do to help you. Over the course of your application we'll keep you up to date with what we are doing to help you. You'll also need to make sure you get in touch with us regularly to let us know what you've done from your personal housing support plan.

If you or someone you know is suffering from domestic abuse, there is help available.
Domestic abuse includes any incident of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse. The abuse can be psychological, physical, social, financial, or emotional. Domestic abuse can happen between two people who are or were intimate partners or family members, regardless of their gender or sexuality

You may qualify for help from Amber Valley Borough Council if you are a former member of the armed forces and are homeless or threatened with homelessness. We will assess if you are eligible for housing assistance and have not made yourself intentionally homeless.
Subject to you satisfying the above criteria we can help you with both emergency and longer-term accommodation.
Contact us as soon as possible if you think you may be homeless after discharge from the services. We do not need to wait until you are made homeless before we can help.

In addition to the help mentioned above there is a range of services for ex-services people who find themselves homeless and on the streets, for example:
If you're in hospital and will be unable to return home because of your ill health it may be possible for your home to be adapted to help you to stay there. Please see our disabled facilities grants page.
If you have no place to return to when you're discharged from hospital, housing solutions can assess your housing and support needs and work with you, and any professionals, to ensure accommodation is available for you when you are well enough to leave hospital.
It's important to make contact as soon as possible to allow time for assessments to be completed and accommodation to be identified.

If you're in prison or youth detention and will have no home on release, we can assess your needs and will work with you and any professionals helping you to find a home.
We can offer advice on a range of issues. It's important for you to get in touch as soon as possible to give time for an assessment so that housing solutions can be explored and accommodation found.

If you need housing advice assistance and support with your housing needs, please speak to your health worker, support worker or contact our housing solutions team.
On the basis that you are suffering from a mental illness or impairment this council could well accept that you are vulnerable and therefore in "priority need" for accommodation. This will be determined by your personal circumstances.
The housing solutions team will develop a personal housing plan that will be completed in partnership with you and potentially your advocate to find a sustainable solution to your housing problem. We will also attempt to provide you with access to main stream healthcare services where possible and appropriate.

If you are 16/17 years old or a care leaver, you may be able to get housing and other help from Derbyshire County Council and Amber Valley Borough Council. The help you get mainly depends on your age.

Derbyshire County Council’s Children’s Services team is responsible for finding you somewhere to live until you turn 18. If you are an 18-25 year old homeless care leaver, Amber Valley Borough Council may have a duty to help you if:
Amber Valley Borough Council may have a duty to help you with finding somewhere to live. It doesn't matter if those 13 weeks were not all at the same time.
You have different rights if you have spent less than a total of 13 weeks in care, or you want to leave care before your 16th birthday.
If you are aged 18 to 25, you may be able to get help from both Derbyshire County Council’s children’s services and our housing solutions team. You are automatically classed as being in 'priority need' until your 25th birthday.
Children’s services can also help you by providing support and help with training and education.
If you are in full-time further or higher education, children’s services must find you somewhere to live during holiday periods if you need it.

The duty to refer requires public authorities in England to notify a local housing authority, such as Amber Valley Borough Council, of service users they think may be homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Charitable and voluntary groups are also welcome to refer such cases to us.
