Three-hundred low energy light bulbs for lamps are up for grabs at the launch of the Council’s 2006 Winter Warmth Advice Pack.
During the launch on Friday 27 October, 150 packs containing two light bulbs each will be handed out to Amber Valley residents on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The launch will take place at Heanor Town Hall between 10am and 2pm. Every visitor will receive a free Winter Warmth pack containing two room thermometers, information about how to keep warm, energy-saving tips and details of how to apply for home insulation grants.
Attractions at the Winter Warmth Launch will include:
- a free raffle offering the chance to win loft or cavity wall insulation for one standard-sized home (prize donated by Global Insulation) ;
- a free soup and cake lunch at midday;
- Be-active exercise sessions led by Greeta Davis, the health referral co-ordinator for the leisure centres in Alfreton, Heanor and Ripley (10.30am to midday);
- health advice from Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust;
- benefits advice from Amber Valley Borough Council’s Benefits and Revenues Service;
- advice on how to apply for energy-saving improvement grants from the government-funded Warm Front Team; and
- 100 free energy-saving computer plugs for Amber Valley residents who are in receipt of qualifying income- or disability-related benefits. The PowerDown plugs will be handed out on a first-come, first-serve basis and the people requesting them will be expected to provide proof of address and qualifying benefit.
Councillor Les Dorey, Amber Valley Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Safety and Housing, said: “Why not beat the winter blues by coming along to our launch event? Have some lunch, enter our raffle and learn how to stay warm and healthy during the coming months.”
The fuel poverty charity National Energy Action and the Eaga Partnership, which manages the government-funded Warm Front grant scheme, have awarded £420 to Amber Valley Borough Council and Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust to cover the cost of some of the activities at the Winter Warmth Launch.
