Heanor Town Centre - Options for Change

13 November 2006

Proposals concerning the future of Heanor town centre are set to be unveiled at a two-day exhibition.

On Friday 17 and Saturday 18 November, Amber Valley Borough Council will be launching its draft town centre action plan at Heanor Methodist Church on Market Street. Visitors to the church will be able to learn about the proposals and submit comments about them to the Council. The exhibition will be open between 9.30am and 7pm on Friday 17 November and between 9am and midday on Saturday 18 November.

The action plan – which is entitled Options for Change - explores a variety of town centre issues including shopping, car parking and accessibility, empty properties, the proposed relief road and development opportunities.

The town centre plan is designed to complement the me&u project’s action plan, which was launched in early 2005. The me&u plan identified the town centre as an area with a number of regeneration needs. Launched in June 2003, the Amber Valley Partnership’s me&u project is designed to boost the long-term fortunes of Heanor and the surrounding area.

Councillor Stephen Hayes, the Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “The issues explored in the action plan are central to the town’s future. We want residents, shoppers, visitors and people who work in the town to comment on these issues and how they should be addressed in the future.”

Councillor Hayes added: “This is an important step in realising the aims of the me&u project and will ensure that the town has the planning framework it needs to take it in the right direction.”

Information about the town centre action plan will be available from Heanor Town Hall, Heanor Library and local shops from Friday 17 November. Alternatively information can be obtained by telephoning 01773 841584 or visiting www.ambervalley.gov.uk

The Council is planning to stage another exhibition about the plan in December. Details of the date and venue will be announced shortly. The consultation on the plan will run until the end of January 2007 in order to give everyone time to consider the issues involved and make comments to the Council.
