Public entertainment causes noise problems

21 November 2006

A pub in Heanor has been banned from staging public entertainment until it has completed work to combat noise problems.

Amber Valley Borough Council’s Licensing Board took the decision while carrying out a review of the Ray Arms’ premises licence on Wednesday 1 November 2006. The board decided to review the licence following complaints from the public about noise at the pub.

Under the 2003 Licensing Act, the following activities are classed as entertainment provided they take place in the presence of an audience:

  • the performance of a play;
  • the exhibition of a film;
  • an indoor sporting event;
  • boxing or wrestling entertainment;
  • a performance of live music;
  • any playing of recorded music;
  • a performance of dance; or
  • entertainment of a similar description to live music, recorded music or dance.
