Amber Valley residents with an interest in social enterprise are invited to a networking event on Wednesday 31 January 2007.
The evening event at the Genesis Centre in Alfreton has been organised by the Borough Council as part of its Amber Valley 4 Social Enterprise programme. Between 6pm and 8pm, visitors to the centre will get the opportunity to network with other people who are interested in social enterprise.
Councillor Stephen Hayes, the Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “A social enterprise competes in the market place like any other business - but it re-invests in the community it serves instead of paying dividends to shareholders.
“If you are a social entrepreneur or are interested in becoming one, this is an ideal opportunity to network with others.”
A wide variety of goods and services are provided by existing social enterprises including:
- childcare facilities;
- recycling centres;
- food; and
- arts and crafts.
The Genesis Centre, where the networking event is being held, is a social enterprise that provides sporting and leisure activities, eateries and function rooms for its local community.
