Amber Valley Borough Council’s Sports Development Team has been re-accredited by Quest, the UK’s quality scheme for sport and leisure.
Following an inspection by Quest staff, the team has been highly commended and awarded an assessment score of 77 per cent.
When assessing sports development teams, Quest inspectors look at the following aspects of their work: strategic planning, training for coaches, the promotion of sporting activities, the development of sporting opportunities in the community and within schools, sports volunteering and development work within sports clubs.
During 2006, the team’s achievements have included:
- producing the winning squad at the Regional Sportshall Athletics Competition taking a team to the 2006 Mini Olympics in Poland;
- running 40 Primary School Competitions in Hockey, Basketball, Kwik Cricket and Athletics;
- staging the first Amber Valley Sports Awards;
- delivering holiday outreach sessions at 12 sites;
- delivering Nightreach sessions at eight sites;
- running three outreach competition festivals;
- delivering Hockey, Basketball and Kwik Cricket sessions in primary schools;
- organising three competitions for Derbyshire special schools;
- holding 10 coach education courses for clubs, coaches and young leaders; and

Councillor John Nelson, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure Development, said: “Congratulations to the Sports Development Team! They have done incredibly well to improve on their initial Quest score of 71 per cent, which they achieved in 2004.
“By developing a range of sporting opportunities across Amber Valley, the Sports Development Team is making a positive difference to many people’s lives.”
Quest is endorsed by Sport England and supported by a range of organisations including the Local Government Association.
