Partnership between dog wardens and Royal Mail
05 March 2007
Amber Valley Borough Council has joined forces with Royal Mail to tackle the threat posed by dangerous dogs.
In an effort to prevent attacks, the two organisations have agreed to share information about dog attacks. Councillor Les Dorey, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Safety and Housing, said: “One of the main threats faced by postal workers is dog attacks. By working with us, Royal Mail hopes to reduce the risk faced by its employees and the wider community.
“Information from Royal Mail will help the Council’s dog wardens to identify animals that are dangerous. In order to tackle the problem, they will educate dog owners about keeping their dogs under control. Prosecuting offenders will be a last resort when education and support has failed.”
Councillor Dorey added: “Responsible dog owners have nothing to fear from this scheme. We are only interested in identifying dogs that pose a threat to members of the public.”
