Freedom of the Borough

At a Special Meeting of Full Council on Wednesday, 11 April 2007, Belper swimmer, Ross Davenport was granted the Freedom of the Borough for his outstanding achievements in the 2006 Commonwealth Games held in Melbourne, Australia. Ross won two gold medals for the 200m freestyle and the 4 x 200m freestyle relay and a silver medal for 4 x 100m medley relay. The Mayor officially presented Ross with the Freedom of the Borough in the form of a certificate and an engraved medal. This is the highest award the Council can give a person for their achievements.
