Theatre Company Visits Primary Schools in Amber Valley
23 April 2007
Schools across Amber Valley have enjoyed a visit from the Quantum Theatre Company, promoting healthy eating messages through drama. The musical play entitled “Captain Cholesterol and the Grannies from Mars” is a musical comedy on health and nutrition.
The tour was organised by the Healthier Communities Team at Amber Valley Borough Council, to raise awareness of Obesity Week, which takes place in March.
Annette Fleet, a Healthier Communities Project Worker explains “We wanted to increase children’s understanding about healthy eating in a fun and informal way”. She added “Initial feedback suggests the children took away some key messages about food.” When children were asked if they had learnt something about food, they responded with some positive observations such as “too much sugar can affect your teeth” and “it is important to eat a balanced diet”. As one child advises “Don’t be a twit, let’s get fit”!”
