Around 210 primary school pupils in Amber Valley will attend the Borough’s Child Safety Roadshow. The Roadshow has been organised by the Amber Valley Safety Action Team whose members include Amber Valley Borough Council, Derbyshire County Council, Amber Valley Primary Care Trust, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and Derbyshire Police.
The Roadshow will visit Ecclesbourne Secondary School in Duffield on Tuesday 26th and Thursday 28th June 2007 in order to stage shows for visiting primary school children, who are due to join the school in September.
As part of the Roadshow, the 10 and 11-year-olds will be able to visit the Fire Service’s smoke simulation tent. They will also listen to presentations about dog safety, fire escape plans, cycling safety, anti-social behaviour and under-age smoking.
Pupils will be asked to complete a quiz covering the topics they have learnt about during the Roadshow. The pupil who obtains the highest score on each day will receive a prize.
Every child will receive a safety information bag containing leaflets about the day’s presentations and some free goodies including a pen and a key ring.
Councillor Norman Bull, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Health, Safety and Housing, said: “Every year in the UK, around two million children are taken to hospital as a result of accidents and about 300 die as a result of their injuries.
The Roadshow is designed to prevent accidents by teaching children how to avoid putting themselves at risk.”
