We are committed to improving the environment in which we live and work and so we have created a new Unit called Landscape Services, which is now operational.
Landscape Services are responsible for cleansing duties, landscape maintenance and improvements to parks and open spaces throughout the Borough. As part of these responsibilities the Council will be focusing on irresponsible dog ownership, and litter. Fixed penalties will initially be issued to dog owners who do not clean up after their dogs, and to people who drop litter.
From July people who insist on not keeping the environment clean can be issued with a fixed penalty notice of £80, by the Council’s newly appointed Community Officers.
Dog Wardens will be working in partnership with the Community Officers and can take action against dog owners for dog fouling which can lead to a prosecution and to a fine. This can happen now!
Dog fouling and litter affects our enjoyment of public open spaces and is a health hazard. It is the dog owner’s responsibility to clean up after their dog and to dispose of its mess properly. Litter is an eyesore and can harm wildlife and encourages rats and other vermin. Amber Valley Borough Council spends over £800,000 a year to keep the Borough clean, and national surveys show that the Borough is cleaner.
The Council is asking everyone to use the appropriate bin, litter or poop-scoop bins provided. If there isn’t the correct bin conveniently available you should take your waste home!
You can approach the Community Officers or Dog Wardens in your neighbourhood for a chat about your concerns or report instances of littering or dog fouling to the Landscape Services Helpline Tel: 01773 841572. For any other information please contact Tel: 01773 841335.
