The Curzon CE School from Quarndon were crowned champions at Amber Valley Borough Council’s Kwik Cricket Competition for the third year running. They beat Pottery Primary School (Belper) in a closely fought final held recently at Marehay Cricket Club and now go on to represent Amber Valley in the County Finals being held later this month.
In all, 36 teams from 26 Schools entered with over 300 youngsters taking part in the competitions, which included qualifying rounds at Denby, Belper Meadows, Codnor, Langley Mill, Riddings and Alfreton Cricket Clubs.
The Council’s Sports Development Team set up these competitions, with support from the above Cricket Clubs, which build upon the session delivered by community coaches in Schools.
James Beresford and Nathan Hunt umpired and scored at the competition. James and Nathan are learners on the Council’s Entry to Employment (E2E) Sports leadership training programme, which is funded by the Learning and Skills Council.
