Coffee and cakes raise funds to fight cancer

28 September 2007

The Tourist Information team in Ripley would like to say a huge thank you to everybody who joined them for a coffee and a cake and helped raise a fantastic £268.24 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Visitors to the Tourist Information Centre joined staff from Amber Valley Borough Council to take part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 28 September and raise vital funds to support those diagnosed with cancer, and their families.

Councillor Peter Arnold, Mayor of Amber Valley dropped into the Centre for a coffee during the morning. He said: “It was great to see so many people come along to the Tourist Information Centre to enjoy a cup of coffee and a cake, and help raise money for this worthwhile cause. Most people know someone who has been touched by cancer, so I’m delighted that we have been able to support the work of Macmillan in this way.”

Special thanks must go to The Latte Lounge in Ripley, The Hayes Conference Centre in Swanwick, Willson Vale Lubrizol in Hazelwood, Mrs Mumford in Newton and all the staff, customers and members of the public who kindly donated cakes and helped make the event such a success.

Ends.
