Flying the flag for Derbyshire Day

17 September 2007

Come and celebrate the county of Derbyshire! That’s the message for families in Amber Valley, who are being invited to take part in the county’s first ever ‘Derbyshire Day’.

Derbyshire Day is being held on Saturday 22nd September to mark the first anniversary of the launch of the Derbyshire Flag. The Regeneration team at Amber Valley Borough Council has arranged a variety of events to mark the Day, which begins at 11.00am with an official opening by the Mayor in Ripley Market Place.

Councillor Stephen Hayes, Deputy Leader of Amber Valley Borough Council and Cabinet Member with responsibility for Tourism said: “We’ve organised a packed programme of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy throughout the day. As well as a great line-up of free activities taking place around the town centre, visitors will also be able to find out more about some of the county’s hidden treasures. We’re hoping lots of people will come along and help us celebrate Derbyshire Day in Amber Valley.”

Performing in Ripley town centre will be the Ashover Band, the Moscow Straights, Ripley Morris Men and State Zero. Giggles the Clown will be on hand to do some face painting and balloon modelling, and there will also be a bouncy castle and lots of other children’s rides and activities. The Market Place will be closed for parking all day.

Ripley and District Heritage Trust will be celebrating their book launch, Amber Valley CVS are opening their garden to the public, and All Saints’ Church are hosting an ‘Interactive Apple Juicing’ event and BBQ.
