England trials for local teenager

05 October 2007

Local teenager, Ashley Clipston (18) from South Normanton is gearing up to his biggest challenge yet as he prepares for trials for the England under 25’s Bowls Team in Oxford on the 14th October.

Ashley has been bowling since the age of 13 when he joined the Alfreton Junior Bowls Club and has won a string of national and regional competitions over the last five years. He explained, “This is a really exciting opportunity for me. My family are all involved in bowls and have been tremendously supportive over the last few years. I have been a member of the Junior Bowls Club at Alfreton Leisure Centre for five years and it has been great to be able to play in a competition standard facility. I’m really looking forward to the new bowls season and the trials in particular, which will be my biggest competition to date.”

Alfreton Indoor Bowls Centre at Alfreton Leisure Centre has reopened for the 2007/08 season following extensive refurbishment as part of the PFI project.

Alfreton Junior Bowls Club meets every Saturday from 8.30am – 10.30am and is open to everyone aged 8 to 16 years of age. For further details about the club please contact Bowls Manager, Jim Hickman on Tel: 01773 833666
