Looking for something to do during the school half term holiday? Amber Valley Borough Council is inviting families to take part in free workshops organised as part of this year’s ‘Big Draw’ event.
The Big Draw is the UK’s biggest annual art event, which aims to get people drawing by taking inspiration from their own community and environment.
The workshops will be taking place at the Old Fire Station on Heanor Market Place from 10am until midday, and from 1pm until 3pm on Monday 22 October. The theme for the day will be ‘Fires, Fire Engines and Fire Fighters’.
Making a special appearance on the day will be a 1951 vintage Dennis F1 Fire Engine! Organisers are also hoping that members of the Fire and Rescue Service will get the chance to pop in to the workshops with a modern engine to provide further inspiration.
Councillor John Nelson, Cabinet Member for Leisure Development at Amber Valley Borough Council, said: “Whether you’re a keen artist or have never tried your hand at drawing before, the workshops have been designed to appeal to all ages and abilities. They will be a great opportunity for children to work with a professional artist to create their own unique artwork and to have a fun day out during the school holidays.”
The event is aimed at children aged six years and upwards accompanied by their parents, grandparents and carers – but adults are also welcome to come along take part! All children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.
Artist Tan Draig will lead the workshops and will be helping participants to make large three-dimensional drawings.
Both sessions are free. Although booking is not necessary it may be advisable to book in view of the scale of the drawings planned and the size of the venue. Please phone 01773 841419 or 01773 841529 to find out more.
Ends.
