Are you aged over 16 and interested in sport? Would you like to help promote sporting activities in your local community? Then why not enrol onto one of Amber Valley Borough Council’s Sports Leadership courses!
Twelve people have recently successfully completed a Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership run by Amber Valley Borough Council’s Sports Development Team at Charles Hill Sports Complex, Loscoe.
The week long course, which ran during the October half-term, is aimed at individuals 16 years old or above. The course covered a variety of leadership skills, including Planning, Organising, Safety, Games Experience, Adaptation of Games, Communication, Health & Fitness, Team Building and Evaluation. Candidates also gained a Basic First Aid certificate as one of the modules towards the course. Local youngsters were invited to attend a free basketball session, in which the candidates were required to coach the session for their assessment.
Each candidate must now complete a further ten voluntary hours (under supervision), leading sport in the community as part of the Borough Sports Leadership Development Programme. Upon completion they will receive a nationally recognised certificate and badge.
It is hoped that these sports leaders will continue to develop their skills and will help in their local communities delivering sports activities.
