Are you one of the 17,000 people across England that have gone online to vote for their favourite place in the first national Pride of Place poll?
The good news is that Amber Valley folk are clearly proud of their area, with more people in the Borough logging on and voting for places in Amber Valley than anywhere else in Derbyshire!
But if you haven’t already chosen your favourite place in Amber Valley, it’s not too late to join in and demonstrate pride in your home town by voting for your top attraction.
Amber Valley Borough Council is reminding residents to visit their website www.ambervalley.gov.uk and click on the ‘Pride of Place’ link on the homepage to vote for one of ten top spots.
So far 30% of voters have chosen Midland Railway, Butterley as the place that makes them most proud in the area. Following closely behind is Heage Windmill and Strutt’s North Mill, Belper but if you prefer Lea Gardens, Crich Tramway Village, or Shipley Country Park visit www.ambervalley.com to make your vote count.
Councillor Stephen Hayes, Deputy Leader of Amber Valley Borough Council and Cabinet Member with responsibility for Tourism, said: “The Pride of Place poll is a great way to find out more about Amber Valley’s most famous landmarks!
“We’re fortunate to have such a superb range of attractions here in the Borough and this poll is an opportunity for residents to show how proud they are of their local area. We hope lots of people will log on to our website, either at home or using the free Internet access available in their local library, and vote for their favourite place in Amber Valley.”
You can vote anytime until 30 November 2007 after which the final results will be declared.
Ends.

Notes to editors
The Pride of Place poll is part of the Communities and Local Government’s ‘Connect to your Council’ campaign which encourages citizens to make their council websites a first port of call for services and information. Residents can now use council websites to find out anything from bin collection rotas to how to apply for school places.
