Stuart Bradford has been elected as the new Leader of Amber Valley Borough Council.
Councillor Bradford was formally named as Leader at the Full Council meeting on 17 December. He’s taken over from Councillor Alan Cox, who has stepped down after five and a half years in the role.
Councillor Bradford said, “It is both an honour and a privilege to be given this opportunity to serve the people of Amber Valley. I’m determined to continue, and build on, all the good work that has been done by the Council over the past five years. Whilst there will undoubtedly be challenges ahead my fellow Councillors and I will be working hard as a team to deliver policies with a broad appeal and value that will benefit those living and working in the Borough.”
Councillor Bradford first served on Amber Valley Borough Council in 1990, when he was elected member for Duffield. He was elected Leader of the Conservative and Independent Group two years later, when the Group were in opposition. He retired from the Council in 1998, largely due to increased business commitments. He returned to his seat as one of the two members for Duffield following the elections in May this year.
“I’ve always enjoyed being a Councillor, it’s a hugely interesting and rewarding role; so I was delighted to be re-elected earlier this year,” added Councillor Bradford. “I’m now looking forward to my new role as Leader, and working together with Council staff, colleagues and local residents to make Amber Valley a cleaner, greener, safer borough for everyone.”
