Amber Valley Borough Council’s toilets at Eagle Street, Heage have won a prestigious three star award in the 2008 ‘Loo of the Year Awards’.
These British Toilet Association Awards recognise the best 'away from home' or public toilets across the UK.
Dave Shaw, North Area Operational Officer at Amber Valley Borough Council said: “Our staff work extremely hard to ensure a high standard of cleanliness in all our public toilets. At times this can be difficult or unpleasant, so I’m delighted that their efforts have been rewarded in this way. We are committed to maintaining the high standards we have set, not just in the Eagle Street toilets, but in all our public toilets across the Borough.”
Councillor Jack Brown, Cabinet Member for Clean and Green at Amber Valley Borough Council said “We invest a lot of time, money and effort into providing clean and safe toilet facilities for residents and visitors to the Borough, so it’s great news to receive national recognition for this. I would like to congratulate the team for the hard work they do every day to ensure the Eagle Street toilets are an award winning facility”.

Notes for editors:
All public toilets within the Borough are checked on a daily basis. Our town centre toilets are cleaned twice a day, with other locations cleaned twice-weekly, or more frequently as required.
The Award is valid until 31 December 2008.
All entries for the Loo of the Year received an unannounced visit from an authorised Loo of the Year Awards Inspector and assessed against a wide range of judging criteria – including signage and decor, fixtures and fittings and overall standards of cleanliness and management.
Dyson Airblade sponsored the 2007 awards, with additional sponsorship provided by Initial Washroom Solutions, Armitage Shanks and the British Cleaning Council, together with the four national tourism bodies in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
A record 1500 entries were received this year, across 57 separate entry categories in the competition, with many first time establishments joining the increasing number of providers who submit their toilet facilities for an annual independent assessment.
