Did you know that if you’re aged over 70, and own your own house or rent privately, you are now entitled to free cavity wall and loft insulation?
Amber Valley Borough Council’s Housing team is reminding all residents over 70 that they can save money and stay warm this winter by taking advantage of this great offer – and they don’t even have to be on benefits to claim!
Joanne Walker, Energy Officer at Amber Valley Borough Council, said: “Insulation is a fantastic way to significantly reduce the amount of energy you need to heat your home. Around a third of all heat in an un-insulated home is lost through the walls, and around 15% is lost through your roof. If you have cavity walls, insulating them will make a great difference, and it could save you around £90 a year on your fuel bills. Insulate your loft, and you could save a further £110 on your heating bills every year. Together this amounts to a huge potential saving.”
Residents are only entitled to free loft insulation if they already have less than 75mm of existing insulation. Insulation may also be available to households on ‘eligible benefits’, and for those not on benefits or aged over 70 there are still schemes where you can get your home insulated at up to 50% of the actual cost.
