Candidates wishing to stand for election to Amber Valley Borough Council have until Friday 4 April to complete and return their nomination forms.
Local elections will take place on Thursday 1 May 2008 in the following 15 Wards of the Borough:
Alfreton; Belper Central; Belper North; Codnor & Waingroves; Heage & Ambergate; Heanor East; Heanor & Loscoe; Heanor West; Ironville & Riddings; Kilburn, Denby & Holbrook; Langley Mill & Aldercar; Ripley; Ripley & Marehay; Shipley Park, Horsley & Horsley Woodhouse; and Somercotes.
Prospective candidates can collect nomination papers from Ripley Town Hall. The election timetable and candidates’ guide can be viewed on the Council’s website at www.ambervalley.gov.uk in the ‘Democracy and elections’ section of the A-Z.
To stand for election candidates must be 18 years old on the day of nomination and be a citizen of the Commonwealth, the Irish Republic or the European Union. They must also meet one of the following criteria:
- Have occupied (as owner or tenant) any land or premises in the Borough during the whole of the preceding 12 months
- Have had their principle or only place of work in the Borough during the whole of the preceding 12 months
- Have lived in the Borough during the whole of the preceding 12 months
Completed nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer, Town Hall, Market Place, Ripley between Thursday 27 March 2008 and 12 noon on Friday 4 April 2008. Please note that the Town Hall will be closed on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 March.
