The William Gregg VC Leisure Centre in Heanor has been selected to host a local heat of the national Football Association’s Umbro Fives Tournament, which is holding its final at Wembley Stadium this summer.
The FA Umbro Fives is a national five-a-side football competition for over 16s.Your team can enter the local heat at William Gregg VC Leisure Centre on 7 and 8 June to be in with a chance of qualifying for a place in the regional finals in Birmingham on Sunday 29 June.The winners of the regional final will play in the national final at Wembley Stadium.
Richard Bartles, Event Co-ordinator explained, “This is a brilliant event for local football teams to get involved, with the potential to win a once in a lifetime opportunity.We want as many teams as possible to take part and make our local heat one of the best events and who knows, a team from Amber Valley may be playing at Wembley later this year!”
Councillor John Nelson, Cabinet Member for Leisure Development at Amber Valley Borough Council said, “We’re delighted to be hosting the local heat of this national tournament here in Amber Valley.A lot of local five a side teams play in leagues at our leisure centres every week, and this is a great opportunity for them to put their football skills to the test - and be in with a chance to play on one of the most famous football pitches in the world!”
To get involved simply register your team on line at www.thefa.com/umbrofives or return a completed application form to the William Gregg VC Leisure Centre.Forms are available from John Terry in the leisure centre reception.There is an entry fee of £40 per team and all teams are guaranteed a minimum of 80 minutes match time.There are no further fees for qualification to the regional or national finals and all qualifiers for the Wembley finals are given travel expenses and a free Umbro kit for the finals.
