Council celebrates Investors in People award

14 March 2008

Amber Valley Borough Council has once again achieved the Investors in People Standard, following a successful reassessment earlier this month.

Investors in People is the national standard by which organisations can improve their performance through its people.

The Council first achieved Investors in People status in 1997, and this latest assessment was against the new and more exacting standard, which focuses on how effectively people are managed and developed.

In her report presented to Council Officers following the successful assessment, the Investors in People Assessor commented: “Amber Valley Borough Council is an organisation that strives to improve in everything it does. Its achievements to date in relation to how it manages and develops people, within an ever-changing environment, can only be applauded. It has a workforce who very evidently care about the services they deliver and the public they serve, and who are proud to work for Amber Valley.”

Councillor Melvyn Hall, Cabinet Member for Personnel and Performance at Amber Valley Borough Council said: “I’m delighted that Amber Valley Borough Council continues to be recognised as an Investor in People. It is a credit to all our staff that we have achieved this award, especially as this time we have been assessed against the new, more challenging criteria.

“The report by the Investors in People Assessor highlighted many areas where we are performing to a consistently high standard, but also provided constructive feedback on areas where there is opportunity for improvement.Looking ahead, we aim to build on our achievements to date to ensure we continue to develop a skilled, motivated workforce committed to providing the highest standard of service to the people of Amber Valley.”

The Council is currently preparing an action plan to take forward the findings from the Investors in People assessment.
