Spring into action - sign up for your new waste collection service

04 March 2008

Spring is fast approaching – which means lawns need mowing, hedges trimming and gardens weeding. You may find you have garden waste that you aren’t able to compost, or you may prefer someone else to take it away for you. If so, Amber Valley Borough Council can help.

In direct response to requests from residents, from week commencing 28 April 2008 we’re introducing a fortnightly green waste collection service. The service, which will cover the whole of the Borough, will have an annual fee of £39.

Councillor Jack Brown, Cabinet Member for Clean and Green at Amber Valley Borough Council, said, “Environmentally, it’s better to home compost and we would always encourage residents to compost their garden waste wherever possible. However certain garden waste is more difficult to compost, and some residents would prefer someone else to help deal with this. We can do just that for 75 pence per week, or even less if neighbours club together and share a bin. Offering this on a subscription basis is a good way of providing the service for those residents who need it, without increasing the Council Tax burden for all.”

As this is a subscription-only service, only those residents who sign up will be able to have their green waste collected. Once we’ve received payment for the service, we will enter that person into a prize draw. Three lucky winners will have their fee refunded, and they will receive the green waste service at no cost for the first year. You will need to subscribe to the service by Monday 31 March to have a chance of winning.

If you would like to sign-up for the scheme, or would like further information about the green waste collection service or home composting please visit us at www.ambervalley.gov.uk, email us at refuse@ambervalley.gov.uk, or call the Refuse and Recycling Helpline on 01773 841326.

Ends.
