Charity provides grants worth over £3,000

Community groups in Belper and Milford are set to receive over £3,000 from the Herbert Strutt Charity.
The Charity’s management committee agreed to award grants to nine organisations at its meeting on Thursday 3 April 2008.
Peter Carney, Chief Executive of Amber Valley Borough Council and Clerk to the Trust said: “These grants will be used by the various groups to directly benefit local communities in and around the Belper area.”
The charity made the following awards:
- £500 to the St Vincent de Paul Society
- £100 to the Fleet Bowls Club
- £300 to Derbyshire Wildlife Trust
- £500 to Belper Detachment Army Cadet Force
- £250 to Belper Rangers
- £400 to Holbrook Miners’ Welfare Football Club Junior and Senior
- £400 to Belper Meadows Cricket Club
- £500 to Belper Stroke Club
- £200 to Duffield and District Crown Green Bowls Club

The Herbert Strutt Charitable Trust was established in 1986 and is administered jointly by Amber Valley Borough Council and Belper Town Council.The charity awards funds for charitable purposes to benefit residents of the area served by Belper Town Council (including Milford), in one or more of the following ways:
- The relief of the aged and poor;
- The relief of distress and sickness;
- The provision and support, with the object of improving the condition of life for the residents of the area in the interests of social welfare of facilities for recreation and other leisure time occupation;
- The provision and support of educational facilities.
