Amber Valley Borough Council has allocated £35,000 to refurbish the football pitch at Somerlea Park in Somercotes.
The news comes the same week that work began on building a brand new community centre in the Park, following the gifting of the land by the Borough Council.
The money, which comes from funding from developments to provide open space and community facilities within the Borough, will be given to Somercotes Parish Council. The project is being overseen by the Somercotes Leisure Development Group.
Sharon Thomas, Landscape Development Manager at Amber Valley Borough Council, said: “This project, coinciding with the building of the other new community facilities within the Park, is more great news for Somercotes! Due to drainage problems the existing football pitch has not been fit for use for some time. The funding will finance the re-grading, drainage and re-seeding of the pitch to bring it back up to playable standard. This project will provide a popular and much needed facility that can be used by everyone within the local community, including the local schools.”
The work is proposed to start in May 2008 and to be completed before the end of the summer, with matches scheduled to be played from early 2009, depending on weather and pitch conditions.
Ends.
