Local building projects shortlisted for prestigious awards

Amber Valley Borough Council has been nominated in three categories for this year’s LABC East Midlands Region 'Built in Quality' Awards.

The LABC (Local Authority Building Control) recognises and rewards good quality building practices.Each year, throughout the UK, LABC organises Built in Quality Award Schemes that identify and reward those that achieve the highest standards in building construction.

The three categories in which Amber Valley Borough Council has been shortlisted are:

  • ‘Best Small Housing Site’ for the development at Nelson Street in Heanor in conjunction with local architects Pilkington McPhee and Spire Homes.
  • ‘Best Partnership with a Main Contractor’ for its ongoing excellent working relationship with Peveril Homes.This is the second consecutive year that this project has been shortlisted for an award; after winning the category in 2007.
  • ‘Best Individual House’ for Beech House in Alfreton.

David Chard, principal building control officer at Amber Valley Borough Council said:

“We are delighted that these three projects have been recognised for their high quality workmanship and excellent standards of design and construction.To be shortlisted for these awards acknowledges the hard work of everyone involved, and recognises the excellent ongoing working relationship between the Council’s Building Control team and the building contractors.

“The standard of entries this year has been exceptionally high, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed that we will be able to repeat last year’s success when the winning projects are announced in June.”
