Alfreton Indoor Bowls Club, based at Alfreton Leisure Centre, was the venue for the English Bowling Federation County Finals in March.All the winners from the County Finals came from Alfreton and will represent Derbyshire in the National Championships to be held in Newark at the end of April.
The winners were:
- Singles: Ashley Clipston
- Pairs: Ashley Clipston & Sean Longhorn
- Triples: A. Bullimore, J.Hopkinson & J.Hickman
- Mixed Pairs: B. Shepperson & Jade Shepperson
- Mixed Triples: G. Shepperson, J.Shepperson & Ashley Clipston
Ashley Clipston also won the County Under 25’s Singles Competition, which took place in Erewash.A total of 32 bowlers from the Midlands took part in the Midlands England Youth Bowls Development Scheme Area Final held at the Rushcliffe Arena, with Amie Sheppers narrowly losing in the Under 14’s semi final. Jim Hickman, Bowls Manager for Alfreton Leisure Centre explained, “We have a good young bowlers’ club at Alfreton with some promising talent.We are really proud of Ashley and the other participants’ achievements and wish him well in the future.”
