Memories of life down the mines

'Mining Memories', an exhibition of Ripley and District mining memorabilia, equipment, photographs and documents, is being held at the Tourist Information Centre, Town Hall, Ripley from Saturday 3 May to Thursday 29 May 2008.

The exhibition is being presented by the Ripley Heritage Trust.On display will be davy lamps and other safety equipment, drilling equipment and miners’ personal equipment.Most of the exhibits date from between the 1960s and 1980s, although there will be items on display from earlier periods. Entry to the exhibition is free of charge.

Notes for editors:

The Tourist Information Centre is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 9.30am and 5.30pm, on Wednesdays between 10.00am and 5.30pm and on Saturdays between 9.30am and 3.00pm.On Wednesday 14 May the Centre will close at 4.00pm for staff training. The Centre will be closed May Day Bank Holiday Monday 5 May and will re-open on Tuesday 6 May. The Centre will also close for Spring Bank Holiday Monday 26 May and will re-open on Tuesday 27 May.
