Children from 26 primary schools in Amber Valley took part in this year’s School Basketball Competition, which was organised by Amber Valley Borough Council’s Sports Development team.
Individuals training on the Council’s Entry to Employment (E2E) Programme and volunteers on the Sports Development Leadership Programme helped to referee and score the games.
Sarah Bingham, Coach and Volunteer Development Officer at Amber Valley Borough Council said “It was great to see so many children having fun playing basketball over the six competitions that took place through the Borough. We now hope that some of the children will continue to play and improve their basketball skills by joining local clubs”.
The small schools final took place on Wednesday 19 March at Heanor Leisure Centre. The four finalists were Morley Primary School, Breadsall CE Controlled Primary School, South Wingfield Primary School and Ambergate Primary School. The winners were Morley School, with South Wingfield finishing runners up.
The large schools final took place the following day, again at Heanor Leisure Centre. The four schools that reached the final were Christ the King Catholic Primary School in Alfreton, Kilburn Junior School, Coppice Primary School in Heanor and Leys Junior School in Alfreton.
