People who drop litter and dog owners who refuse to clean up after their pets risk receiving on-the-spot fines from Community Officers at Amber Valley Borough Council.
In recent months the Council has concentrated on dealing with fly-tipping, but is now cracking down on those responsible for littering and dog fouling in the Borough. From 15 June 2008, anyone who is caught committing these offences will be issued with a £80 fixed penalty notice.
Councillor Jack Brown, Cabinet Member for Cleaner, Greener and Safer at Amber Valley Borough Council said: “We are stepping up our drive to tackle the selfish minority of people who persist in spoiling the environment by dropping litter and not cleaning up after their dogs. Not only do littering and dog fouling affect our enjoyment of public open spaces, they can also pose a serious health hazard. We know that many residents are understandably concerned about these issues, which is why we will be issuing fixed penalty notices to anyone caught littering or refusing to clean up after their pets.”
Dog owners are reminded that it is their responsibility to clean up after their pet and to dispose of any waste properly in the appropriate bins provided. Free poop scoop bags are available to residents of Amber Valley from the Council’s Town Centre offices in Alfreton, Belper, Ripley and Heanor.
