Next steps for Heanor development get underway

16 June 2008

Over six hundred people attended public exhibitions in Heanor earlier this month to find out more about the Borough Council’s plans to regenerate the town.

Amber Valley Borough Council is currently producing a Masterplan, which will set out a clear vision for the regeneration of the town centre. Its aim will be to improve the long-term economic future of Heanor by outlining an agreed vision for regeneration and looking at ways to attract future investment into the town.

The exhibitions were an opportunity for those living and working in Heanor to comment on and influence future proposals outlined in the Masterplan and find out more about how the Council aims to improve the long-term future of the town.

Councillor Kevin Parkinson, Cabinet Support Member for Regeneration at Amber Valley Borough Council said: “We’d like to thank everybody who took the time to attend the exhibitions and share their views and suggestions with us. The Council has been working on the Heanor Masterplan for many months now, and it’s been extremely encouraging to find out that residents are so interested in the plans, and support the Masterplan process to help regenerate the town centre.

“We’ve taken on board the feedback from consultation with residents, everyone involved in the various workshops that we’ve carried out, and from over 200 completed questionnaires collected at the exhibitions. The next stage is to prioritise and agree a set of projects within the Masterplan, including agreeing lead organisations to deliver the projects.”

The Borough Council will be working to secure additional funding to deliver a range of projects within the Masterplan, including schemes to improve the physical appearance of the town centre over the next two to three years. The Masterplan will include development briefs for key sites in the town centre. These will be made available to guide potential development and to assess the market interest in delivering larger scale commercial projects.

Ends.
